The Singular Aesthetic of a Sleeper Year

Upon tasting, one is greeted by a nose suggestive of brambly fruit, enlivened by hints of truffle and aged leather. The palate conveys sophistication through layers of dark cherry and blackcurrant nuanced by touches of cedar and spice – an ode to Saint-Emilion's limestone plateau. Tasted at the 1999 horizontal at Bordeaux Index. The Clos Fourtet has a similar colour to the Troplong Mondot and likewise, it displays good clarity on the nose: lifted and vivacious with black cherries, raspberry leaf and a touch of shellfish. It has an appealing harmony and focus. The palate is clean and fresh with fleshy mouthfeel, rounded tannins but not silky

Although I had higher hopes for this wine from cask, it has turned out to be an excellent St.-Emilion offering sweet black cherry, cola, smoke, plum, and mulberry characteristics. The wine is medium-bodied, plump, and fat, with low acidity and an up-front, flattering style. It should drink well for 10-12 years.
