By Domaine Coche-Dury

2007 Meursault Genevrieres from Domaine Coche-Dury, Burgundy, France

The commune of Meursault is renowned for producing some of Burgundy's most magnificent Chardonnays, and the 2007 Meursault Genevrieres from Domaine Coche-Dury is no exception. A year that tested the mettle of Burgundian winemakers, 2007 was fraught with climatic challenges, yet the resulting wines have since emerged as splendid examples of skilled viticulture coupled with insightful winemaking.

A Connoisseur’s Vintage

Years like 2007 often separate the wheat from the chaff, and in this regard, Domaine Coche-Dury stands tall among its peers. The season’s erratic weather patterns – a tepid summer followed by an unexpectedly warm September – culminated in a harvest that was both earlier and more testing than usual. This demanded a precision in timing and a touch of audacity. The 2007 Meursault Genevrieres encapsulates this delicate balance: the signature minerality and rich buttery textures are underpinned by an acute acidity that gives it life and longevity.

Precise Palate Perspectives

This particular vintage reveals itself with an ornate arrangement of aromas; honeysuckle and toasted hazelnuts greet the nose, followed by a luxurious palate layered with citrus confit, ripe pear, and stony minerality – a testament to its distinguished terroir. A few more years in the bottle have lent it an exquisite maturity without diminishing its energetic freshness.

For fine wine investors, discerning collectors, or aficionados seeking to diversify their portfolios with distinguished whites, the 2007 Meursault Genevrieres from Domaine Coche-Dury represents an astute acquisition. Its pedigree and rare poise render it both a delight for the senses now and a promising candidate for further maturation.

Investment Bottle: A Refined Choice

In conclusion, what defines the 2007 Meursault Genevrieres is how admirably it has developed into a symphony of complexity and finesse. It serves as a praiseworthy addition to any connoisseur's collection, capable of providing not just drinking pleasure but also as a potentially rewarding investment wine, noteworthy for its resilience and expression even in a challenging year for Burgundy. As is characteristic of vintages bestowed with such intriguing narratives, they offer both a drinkable anthology of their birth year’s saga and rewarding prospects for the patient investor.

Tasted blind, the 2007 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières from Coche-Dury is aging well. It has a fascinating bouquet with scents of white flower, walnut, almond and white chocolate that is beautifully defined. With a few minutes in the glass, there is a hint of wild heather. The palate is very well balanced with a silver bead of acidity that cuts through the harmonious citrus fruit. It just exudes precision and nervosité, that hint of reduction towards the finish directing you to the one producer who knows how to use that to great effect. Wonderful. You could broach this now or see how it develops over the next decade...the choice is yours. Tasted October 2016.
