The 2010 Meursault Genevrieres from Domaine Coche-Dury, Burgundy

The 2010 vintage in Burgundy was extolled as one of patience and precision, qualities innately reflected in the masterful creation of Domaine Coche-Dury's Meursault Genevrieres. This particular year stands as a testament to the undoubted intricacies of a more restrained and cooler growing season. As time has progressed, so too has the beauty of this wine, shaping its evolution into a symphony of structure and finesse.

Rarity Melded with Elegance: A Narrative Unfolds

Domaine Coche-Dury, renowned for their fastidious approach to winemaking, rendered the 2010 Meursault Genevrieres with such craftsmanship that each bottle encapsulates an era of winemaking that favours the vigilant over the voluminous. With the sedulous Jean-François Coche at the helm, the 2010 release speaks not only to the pedigree of this domaine but also to the character of the vintage itself.

A Study in Balance and Intensity

The decidedly cool conditions of 2010 yielded a harvest that demonstrates stark vitality and tension within the glass. The Meursault Genevrieres from this year unravels layers of intricate citrus and orchard fruits; a bouquet calibrated with hints of toasted hazelnuts and fine-spun minerality courtesy of Burgundy's esteemed limestone soils. The palate shows impeccable integration of oak - with judicious application ensuring enhancement rather than dominance - resulting in graceful ageing potential.

For investors, this Domaine Coche-Dury jewel presents itself as not merely a bottle of wine but a curator's piece; a portfolio highlight suggestive of astute foresight in fine wine acquisition. The 2010 vintage, veiled by its initial subtlety, has matured into an expression of Meursault Genevrieres replete with depth, longevity and distinction.

The 2010 Meursault Genevrieres flows with high-toned Mirabelle plums and apricots, then fleshes out nicely on the mid-palate, showing off its depth and inner perfume. The Genevrieres is classy, elegant and impeccably refined from start to finish. Anticipated maturity: 2016+. Raphael Coche-Dury is just past his 30th birthday, but he has already spent more than half his life working at the family’s illustrious domaine. It is quite evident Raphael Coche intends to follow his father footsteps, so the future seems to be in very capable hands. Coche describes 2010 as a cold vintage, but one with a lot of concentration because of the extensive coulure (shatter). Conditions in 2009 were pretty much the diametrical opposite. August was very warm, which caused challenges as sugars mounted quickly, but the fruit was healthy. Coche told me he wasn’t a huge fan of the vintage, but found the wines improved as they freshened up after the malos. Coche-Dury fans know the estate bottles three separate Meursaults at the villages level which are unfortunately not identified on the labels, which personally I find a bit frustrating. Qualitatively the three wines are quite similar, but their personalities are not. I have provided notes on all three of the 2010s and two of the 2009s, but readers will have to check with their suppliers to know for certain which wine they are buying. The 2009s should drink well relatively early and appear to have the stuffing to also age very well. The 2010s may very well prove to be nearly immortal. Let me just say I can’t wait to taste these wines in finished form from bottle. Importer: Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, Berkeley, CA; tel. (510) 524-1524
