2003 Meursault Perrieres from Domaine Coche-Dury, Burgundy, France

With decades punctuating the passage of vintages, certain years resonate with a significance that transcends mere winemaking. The venerable 2003 vintage at Domaine Coche-Dury is one such year, particularly within the hallowed rows of their Meursault Perrières vineyard.

A Testament to Resilience

The sweltering European summer of 2003 presented a formidable challenge to vineyards across the continent. In Burgundy, the unyielding heat hastened the ripening process, prompting fears of over-concentration and diminished acidity. However, the old vines of Meursault Perrières at Domaine Coche-Dury unveiled a surprising magnanimity; they bore fruit that was not merely resilient but remarkably expressive.

An Uncommon Elegance Amidst Extremes

The 2003 Meursault Perrieres from Domaine Coche-Dury stands as a paragon of equilibrium in a year where excess could have easily prevailed. The wine exudes notes of ripe stone fruits and honeyed almonds, while the typical flintiness is augmented by a pronounced vanilla bean undertone—a nod to the astute use of oak that Domaine Coche-Dury is renowned for. On the palate, there's a deft interplay between opulence and structure; it possesses a voluptuous body tempered by an invigorating mineral streak that bestows longevity.

Defying the climatic intensity of 2003, this Meursault Perrieres wine retains freshness—arguably its greatest triumph. As it matures, intricate layers unfurl: citrus zest bewitches the nose, whilst toasted hazelnut intertwines persistently through a long, satisfying finish.

In Summary

To indulge in the 2003 Meursault Perrieres from Domaine Coche-Dury is to appreciate the consummate skill of a winemaker harnessing an extreme vintage's vigour, yielding an investment-worthy bottle. It reverberates with complex attributes that resonate beyond its season of origin and conveys a narrative of triumph for both connoisseur and investor alike—an authentic treasure nestled in Burgundy's terroir.

Loads of spices, hazelnuts, and almonds burst from the glass of the 2003 Meursault Perrieres (white). Light to medium-bodied and oily-textured, it exhibits pears, apples, and anise flavors in its expressive character. Its finish, which starts out wonderfully, is tightened by a lemony acidity that Coche will most certainly attend to during elevage. Projected maturity: 2007-2014.
