2011 Meursault Perrieres from Domaine Coche-Dury, Burgundy

The 2011 vintage in Burgundy was one of contrasts and surprises, craftsmanship in viticulture came to the fore to counter a growing season that brought challenges with its early start and erratic weather. The 2011 Meursault Perrieres from Domaine Coche-Dury stands as a testament to the ability of exceptional producers to transcend the vagaries of climate, carving out masterpieces where less adept hands would not.

The Signature of the Season

One finds this enchanting vintage encapsulating a certain brilliance, with the hallmark minerality and precision Domaine Coche-Dury is renowned for. It is immediate upon the nose—notes of slate and wet stone that are so characteristic of the Perrieres vineyard, tied with a ribbon of vibrant citrus zest and almond cream. The 2011 speaks with an articulation that is more than mere weather; it's as though the very essence of this famed Meursault terroir found a clearer voice amidst climatic adversity.

An Oenophilic Orchestra in a Glass

As this vintage crosses the threshold from youth to a stage of burgeoning maturity, it brings forth an opulent texture on the palate that belies its earlier tension. White peach, toasted hazelnut, and a reverberating flintiness strike harmonious chords, much akin to an ensemble playing in perfect unison. The 2011 Meursault Perrieres is a wine that captures attention not just for its sensory delights but also for the implicit promise of investment reward it carries—an anticipation grounded in its prestigious lineage from Domaine Coche-Dury.

Investing in fine wines like this Meursault Perrieres can be akin to curating art; one must consider not only the initial impression but the potential for it to captivate time after time. The 2011 expresses this with aplomb—a symphony poised at an enigmatic crescendo.

In summary, whether destined for the cellar or the dinner table, the 2011 Meursault Perrieres from Domaine Coche-Dury is an exemplary illustration of Burgundy's capability to produce wines that resonate deeply with connoisseurs and investors alike—a vintage characterized by a graceful defiance of expectation.

The 2011 Meursault 1er Cru Perrières is very much in the classic style of the domaine, opening in the glass with a bouquet of lemon zest, pear, white flowers, sesame and a generous framing of oak vanillin. On the palate, the wine is medium-full, saline and edgy, with taut acids, a vertical mid-palate and a searing, stony finish. Though this did fill out with several hours in the glass, it isn’t the most ample or ripe rendition of this bottling; but I’d describe it as lithe rather than lean, and I fully expect it to improve for a decade or more.
