Layered Complexity: A Vintage's Tale

The year 2013 was one marked by a touch of adversity in Burgundy - a cold and rainy spring followed by a challenging growing season that tested the mettle of Vignerons throughout the region. However, it is precisely these conditions that cultivated the grace in this bottling. With yields constrained, what emerged from the vine are grapes that offered concentrated flavours, delicately managed by the sagacious hands at Domaine Comte de Vogue.

A tapestry of precise berry tones, undercurrents of earth, and an elegant minerality - these are the hallmarks of the 2013 Les Amoureuses. With several years tucked beneath its belt, this wine has begun unveiling layers of matured cherry and blackcurrant nuances, supported by silken tannins and a vivacious acidity that promises further evolution.

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses has a perfumed bouquet with heightened floral notes: impressive delineation with the red fruit usurped by black with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannin and acidity that is perhaps singing from a different hymn book. There is body and volume here, though it is missing a little persistence on the finish, runs out the back door before you have really got acquainted. Afford this 4-5 years to fully coalesce and I am sure it will merit a higher score. Tasted September 2016.
