2006 Vosne Romanee Aux Reignots

By Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair

2006 Vosne Romanee Aux Reignots from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair, Burgundy, France

In the pantheon of fine wines, few experiences are as profoundly pleasurable as a mature bottle of Burgundy. The 2006 Vosne Romanee Aux Reignots from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair is no exception, serving as a compelling testament to this assertion.

A Rare Year for Connoisseurs and Collectors Alike

The oft-overlooked 2006 vintage in Burgundy is one that maintains a discreet charm, particularly in the esteemed village of Vosne-Romanée. It was less hailed upon release than its successors, the flamboyant '05s or the structurally magnificent '09s, yet therein lies its allure. With a focussed balance between ripeness and restraint, these wines have emerged with a graceful complexity that seduces the seasoned palate.

Unveiling the 2006 Vosne Romanee Aux Reignots

At first glance, the 2006 Vosne Romanee Aux Reignots exhibits a garnet hue that hints at its maturity, belying the vibrancy that waits within. One is immediately drawn into an aromatic dance - dark cherries and worn leather meet with earthy undertones, a whisper of truffle, and the subtle interplay of spice synonymous with Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair's touch.

The palate offers no less than what the nose promises: an ensemble of precise red fruits and a savoury depth that suggests whispers of sous bois and crushed violets. Indeed, this vintage embodies the finesse that true aficionados chase; those divine moments where place and time collide in the serenity of a glass.

Investing in Subtlety

Navigating the waters of wine investment demands acumen – not only identifying grandeur but perceiving potential in what might initially appear understated. It is exactly this kind of vintage that captivates the sage investor. The 2006 Vosne Romanee Aux Reignots from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair has now come into a period of optimal drinking, easing into a plateau where each bottle unfurls its own narrative of the season and soil whence it came – an ageless charm for portfolios and palates alike.

In sum, this is a wine that does not clamour for your attention with bombast but rather enchants with a whispered confidence - an investment both for pleasure and providence.

Tasted at the Comte Liger-Belair vertical at the Château de Vosne. The 2006 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Reignots does not quite own the precision and focus of the previous vintage on the nose: mulberry and red plum, a scent of violet and even seaweed. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy, quite bold tannin. It does not have the same precision as the 2005 but there is equivalent weight and a pleasant sappiness on the finish. It is a decent Aux Reignots, though I would not place it amongst the top tier of vintages from the domaine. Tasted June 2015.
