Refinement amidst Adversity: A Vintage Worth Investing

A hallmark of Domaine Emmanuel Rouget's approach is persistence in authenticity and quality - traits celebrated in this 2016 vintage. The rarity of Cros Parantoux, a mere 1.01 hectares, married with Rouget's expert stewardship, imparts investors with an opportunity not just for enjoyment but as an acquisition poised for appreciation within fine wine portfolios.

A Season of Contrast, A Wine of Elegance

The 2016 growing season in Burgundy was one of stark contrasts, with frightful frost followed by a summer that dovetailed into ideal ripening conditions. The Cros Parantoux vineyard benefitted magnificently from the rebound, fostering grapes that bestowed wine with deep complexity and astonishing balance.

The resulting 2016 Vosne Romanee Cros Parantoux uncoils with an aromatic bouquet bristling with dark berries, a whisper of Asian spice, and earthy undertones that bear the signature of its esteemed provenance. On the palate, it delights with sumptuous layers of fruit interwoven with structured, yet supple tannins – producing an elegant, lingering finish that excites the aficionado and investor alike.

As an opus to a challenging vintage that transcended expectations, the 2016 Vosne Romanee Cros Parantoux from Domaine Emmanuel Rouget presents as an illustrious choice for those who recognise the quiet power embedded within this wine. Its limited availability amplifies its worth in collections where distinction and rarity are highly prized currencies. This is not merely a bottle; it is liquid poetry, encapsulating the essence of exceptional winemaking in the wake of nature’s trials.

The 2016 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Cros Parantoux was only slightly touched by the frost, with Emmanuel losing around 10% of the fruit, no more. Matured in 100% new oak, it has a very pure bouquet with blackberry, raspberry preserve, cold stone and hints of violet gently unfolding in the glass, not a million miles away from a Richebourg (both stylistically and geographically!). The palate is beautifully balanced with luscious red fruit coordinated with a fine line of acidity, blood orange and hints of licorice with blood orange/tangerine notes toward the sustained, pixelated finish. Superb…but maybe the Beaumonts has the edge this year.
