2013 Clos de Vougeot from Domaine Leroy

The storied terroir of Clos de Vougeot in the heart of Burgundy has, through the pertinacious efforts of Domaine Leroy, yielded a 2013 vintage that staunchly represents the unique gifts of its provenance. Few names resonate with the symphonic clout in the realm of Burgundian excellence as does Domaine Leroy, particularly when discussing such hallowed grounds as those within Clos de Vougeot.

A Symphony of Seduction by Season's Symphony

The 2013 season in Burgundy faced challenges; a temperamental spring led to late flowering, while summer brought hailstorms and a cool August that required meticulous nurturing of the vines. The deftness with which Domaine Leroy confronted these ardours is laudably reflected in the poise and balance of their 2013 Clos de Vougeot.

Climatic Caprices Carved into Character

This 2013 Clos de Vougeot from Domaine Leroy weaves an intricate tableau, one that owes as much to the year's climatic caprices as it does to the vinicultural virtuosity exercised. Savour the subtle bouquets that dance upon the olfactory senses—hints of ripe cherries and dark berries, entwined seductively with earthy truffles and fleeting whispers of violet. On the palate, these aromatics unfold gracefully atop a well-structured tannic framework, layered with spiced undertones that lead to a lengthy, elegant finish.

The marvellous versatility of this wine is not lost on investors either. The 2013 vintage’s turnout was comparatively meagre due to the tourbillon of weather trials. Nevertheless, such a yield places the 2013 Clos de Vougeot from Domaine Leroy amongst one of the more intriguing ventures for enthusiasts seeking to expand portfolios with a wine boasting both rarity and resplendent taste.

In Summation: An Ode to Resilience and Refinement

The glowing hallmark of victory informed by vineyard vicissitudes—the 2013 Clos de Vougeot from Domaine Leroy stands testament to what can happen when adversities are artfully woven into an elegant tapestry of complexities. This is undoubtedly one investment-worthy entrant for those wanting to imbue their collections with the storied narrative and refined exclamation point that only vintages like this can provide.

The 2013 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is still quite tight-knit and reserved, opening in the glass with aromas of cassis and wild plums, mingled with notions of smoked meats, incense, rich soil tones and peonies. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, deep and textural, built around an ample chassis of rich and powdery tannins and underpinned by lively acids. This is a muscular young Clos Vougeot that's long and resonant, but which is at least a decade away from its peak, even if it's sufficiently refined to be approached earlier.
