Unveiling the Elegance of the Terroir

Against expectations, 2010 in Burgundy was marked by a cool growing season that culminated in a late harvest. Yet, it is this serendipitous brush with adversity that sculpted the complexity within the 2010 Nuits St Georges aux Boudots. This year allowed for an unhurried maturation of Pinot Noir, which in turn has afforded this wine an alluring tension and depth. Bequeathing layers of dark cherry and licorice, the wine proffers a tannic structure suggesting excellent longevity – a boon for fine wine investment.

A Portrait of Pinot Noir Perfection

Domaine Leroy, under the watchful eye of the illustrious Lalou Bize-Leroy, has long been celebrated for their low-interventionist approach which translates into an authentic representation of each vintage's unique character. The aux Boudots site itself, nestled in the village of Vosne-Romanée and bordering premier cru territory, is revered for wines of formidable elegance and power. The vintage 2010 elevates these characteristics; it's as if Lalou herself breathed life into each bottle with whispers of minerality and wisps of spice.

The 2010 Nuits St Georges aux Boudots from Domaine Leroy offers not just a vibrant tasting encounter but also presents as an investment piece clad in potential. In your cellar, it promises evolution and sophistication; on your palate, it dances with vivacity and grace.

In conclusion, whether graced upon a table surrounded by connoisseurs or quietly amassing value within the sanctum of a collector's cache, this Domaine Leroy offering is not just an asset but an experience – one that continues to capture imaginations year after sanguine year.

The 2010 Nuits St. Georges Aux Boudots opens with an intensely spiced bouquet. It boasts considerable energy, with masses of fruit ripping at the seams. The Boudots is a wine of gorgeous contrasts. It is at once fleshy, yet weightless, in the way only Pinot Noir is capable of. Endless layers of aromas and flavors build through to the deeply satisfying finish. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2040. Lalou Bize-Leroy is always among the first growers to bottle, as she was once again in 2010. Therefore, I have chosen to present final, in-bottle reviews of the 2010 reds along with the Domaine Leroy and D’Auvenay 2010 whites. All of the wines came in at or near the top of my barrel scores. Thinking back to the day I tasted the 2010s from barrel in a very empty-looking cellar, I am reminded, that, as elsewhere, the already minuscule quantities of these wines was made even smaller by the mercilessly short crop in 2010. Readers who can find the wines should not hesitate. In this vintage, the Leroy wines are deeply marked by terroir. Although I don’t share all of her views, tasting with Lalou Bize-Leroy is always a fascinating experience, as everything she does is informed by the deepest and most total conviction imaginable. There is no more ardent exponent of the most fundamental of all Burgundian values – the concept of terroir – than Lalou Bize-Leroy. Importer: Martine’s Wines. Novato, CA; tel. (415) 883-040
