2000 Richebourg Grand Cru from Domaine Leroy, Burgundy, France

In the pantheon of Burgundy's finest, the 2000 vintage of Richebourg Grand Cru from Domaine Leroy emanates a distinctive allure that continues to enrapture enthusiasts and investors alike.

A Vintage Testament to Terroir and Mastery

The turn of the millennium offered up a suite of challenges for Burgundy vintners. Producers like Domaine Leroy contended with a variable growing season that culminated in an auspicious harvest period. Such climatic caprices necessitated a deft touch, resulting in wines with a unique narrative—wines which not only speak of their storied terroir but also of the resilience and ingenuity required to harness its full potential.

The 2000 Richebourg Grand Cru is no exception; it demonstrates the harmonious interplay between human endeavour and nature's elements. To taste this Richebourg is to partake in a story of triumph—a story echoed in its vibrant depth and complexity.

The Investment Perspective: A Confluence of Rarity and Renown

As one contemplates the 2000 vintage through the lens of judicious investment, Domaine Leroy's embodiment of exclusivity comes into focus. Renowned for its limited production and uncompromising quality, this Richebourg has matured into an exquisite gem within fine wine portfolios—its longevity and evolving profile speaks to the astute collector.

With two decades since its inception deepening its array and allure, the 2000 Richebourg Grand Cru suggests a balanced tension between vibrant red fruits and earthy, truffled notes—a sensory reflection on time spent well both in barrel and bottle.

Investing in such a distinguished vintage as Domaine Leroy's 2000 Richebourg Grand Cru, hailing from one of the world's most illustrious wine regions, is as much an aesthetic choice as it is a strategic addition to the discerning investor's collection.

The Tapestry of Time: A Singular Edition

Each swirl in the glass reveals layers: dark cherry entwined with whispers of violet, underpinned by an avoir-dupois of minerality that conveys both opulence and eloquence. The palate suggests unassuming power, with supple tannins presiding over a kingdom of flavours as regal as its provenance would suggest.

In summation, the 2000 Richebourg Grand Cru from Domaine Leroy stands as an enduring testament to a pivotal year. It ensures that its legacy will not only persist across advancing vintages but continue to enrapture those who seek out remarkable narratives bottled at source.

Cherries, raspberries, and cinnamon explode from the glass of the medium to dark ruby-colored 2000 Richebourg. A dense, bold, medium to full-bodied wine, it slathers the palate with loads of jammy red and black fruits whose flavors linger throughout its exceptionally long finish. This offering’s copious ripe and soft tannins are superb. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2012. Madame Lalou Bize-Leroy liked both the 2000 and 2001 vintages, stating that she was “rather pleased with the 2001s as they will bring lots of joy to those who drink them young” and that the 2000s “are candied fruit, reduction of fruit, the essence of fruit.” Many Burgundians chose to bottle their 2001 early in order to “trap” the fruit in the bottle, but Bize-Leroy beat them all to the punch, having completed the bottling process by early September, 2002. Typically an early bottler, Mme. Bize-Leroy felt that the 2001s would lose their fruit to either oxidation or the required sulfuring if left in the barrel for a longer elevage. Overall, Domaine Leroy’s 2001s are a success, though many were found to reveal stemmy, woody tannin in their finishes. If this characteristic melts away quickly, my scores on those wines will appear overly conservative. Importer: Martine’s Wines, San Raphael, CA; tel. (415) 883-0400
