2013 Romanee-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru from Domaine Leroy, Burgundy, France

The realm of Burgundy requires no introduction to the perspicacious investor or the connoinaire. Within this hallowed terroir, there are a handful of vintages that whisper the promise of transcendence, and the 2013 Romanee-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru from Domaine Leroy does so with an eloquent flourish.

Resilience and Reward: Domaine Leroy Shines in 2013

The 2013 vintage in Burgundy was one not for the faint-hearted vintner, with a capricious Mother Nature bestowing hailstorms and a damp, cool start to summer, which tested the mettle of many. Yet, it was the resilience and deft touch of Domaine Leroy that transformed these trials into a lesson in finesse. The limited yields due to challenging weather conditions resulted in an intense concentration of flavours within the grapes that were fortuitously harvested.

Embarking on a Sensory Expedition

This specific vintage of Domaine Leroy's Romanee-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru interlaces complexity with charm. It offers a sensorial tapestry woven with threads of vivacious red fruit, an undercurrent of subtle spice and minerality that bespeaks its noble origin. With tannins that dance between suppleness and structure, it is at once elegant yet enduringly grounded in its prestigious lineage.

Aging has begun to grace this wine with hints of tertiary nuances; earth, forest floor and a whisper of leather are starting to emerge, engaging beautifully with its persistent red cherry and raspberry core. The finish resonates with persistence, assuring that every taste is etched with the articulation of a seasoned storyteller.

For those looking to diversify their portfolios, this offering from Domaine Leroy is not merely an acquisition but an embrace of history and artistry. The 2013 vintage stands as one of determined triumph – where terroir and tenacity have yielded an investment piece rich both in flavour and in potential fiscal gratification.

The 2013 Romanée-Saint-Vivant has enthralling transparency and clarity on the nose with perfumed black cherry, bilberry and cold stone scents, perhaps almost like Richebourg in style! The palate is medium-bodied with saturated, silky smooth tannins, luscious red cherry and pomegranate fruit with great purity on the long and tender finish. This is very tempting and sensual. Put a padlock and key on this for several years.
