Investing in Terroir, Embracing Cool Complexity

Bearing witness to the cooler temperatures that enveloped Burgundy in 2014, the Clos St Denis Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru from Ponsot displays a stunning testament to how Pinot Noir grapes can flourish under adversity, embracing and transforming challenging conditions into elegant complexity. Precise viticulture and consummate winemaking have made this Grand Cru an astute choice for those investing in fine wines, with potential for rewarding maturation.

The palate is graced with an agile profile—a stark contrast to the typically opulent expressions from warmer years. Featuring a backbone of tension and minerality, there is a graceful dance of red fruits threaded with faint whispers of earthy undertones; each sip is a nod to the vintage's subtle character. Artfully crafted tannins suggest a finesse that lingers with modest austerity.

As with all vintages compelled by the hands of nature, the 2014 Clos St Denis Vieilles Vignes from Ponsot is a narrative in resilience. Its vegetal aspects, which hum quietly beneath its fruit, are like echoes of Burgundy's soil speaking through this expression from further back on the stage.

For investors looking toward future appreciation, understanding the innate qualities of 2014 in Burgundy becomes pivotal. This collectible wine not only encapsulates its vintage but stands as an enduring symbol of mastery over elemental strife in viticulture.

In sum, the unique offering of 2014 at Ponsot’s Clos St Denis carries with it not just the promise of evolving complexity but also an intellectual delight for collectors and connoisseurs alike. The 2014 Clos St Denis Très Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru takes its time to open in the glass, but eventually offers raspberry preserve, wild strawberry and distant estuarine scents mixed with desiccated orange peel. The palate is medium-bodied and supple in the mouth. This is very well proportioned, very focused with a noticeable saline tang on the finish. It will deserve 4-5 years in bottle; it is a bit broody and introverted now, but it has the substance to blossom.
