In the rolling valleys of Piedmont, within the borders of Italy's fabled Barbaresco appellation, a legendary name reigns supreme - Gaja. Piemonte, land of truffles and hazelnuts, is home to some of Italy's most accomplished vintners. Among this palatial parade of vinicultural royalty, the 2006 Sorì San Lorenzo from Gaja stands as a beacon of fine wine investment opportunities.

A vintage born from rigour and resilience

The 2006 vintage was characterised by its cool spring, hot summer and a finale of rainy September harvest. This climatic serenade plucked at the grapevines like a virtuoso, drawing forth a grape that communicated the nuances of its birth year with unparalleled clarity.

This potent mix of trials and tribulations bore fruit in the form of robust Nebbiolo grapes—a hardy breed that flourished under the adversity—yielding the captivating quality we find in the 2006 Sorì San Lorenzo.

Investing in liquid artistry

For patrons seeking to invest in fine wines from Italy, 2006 Sorì San Lorenzo provides a portrait of splendid quality and potential return on investment. The depth, finesse and longevity it offers make it an appealing choice for collectors.

Gaja's stylistic ingenuity has painted an unparalleled wine landscape. Carefully measured new oak barrels embellish this wine's inherent vibrancy without overshadowing its unique terroir-sprung taste.

An unmissable dance of fruits and minerals

The sensory journey begins with an overflow of blackberries, plums and dark cherries—accented by undertones of tobacco and licorice. The exquisite balance extends to the palate where firm, structured tannins play against an enveloping richness. The 2006 Sorì San Lorenzo is a lengthy tour de force that crescendos into a finale that's tantalizingly mineral and tremendously long.

This wine is striking testament to the passion and prowess at Gaja, effectively embodying the region's intimate response to climatic challenges and encapsulating a vintage of luminous depth, elegance and longevity.

Investors looking to add a crescendo of impactful Italian finesse to their portfolio would find the 2006 Sorì San Lorenzo from Gaja an irresistible proposition.

The 2006 Langhe Sori San Lorenzo is the most virile of these 2006 Langhes. The wine reveals terrific depth and richness in its dark fruit, smoke, tar, licorice and menthol. The authoritative Sori San Lorenzo offers plenty of excitement and sheer pleasure in an extroverted style. The elegant finish is at once powerful and sublime. Baritone notes of tar, smoke and licorice linger on the close. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2031. Angelo Gaja's 2006s from Barbaresco are lovely, although they require a bit of aeration to find their focus. Tthe 2006 Barbaresco in particular is quite an achievement in this challenging vintage. As always Gaja blends in a small percentage of Barbera for his single-vineyard Langhe wines. Importer: Terlato Wines International, Lake Bluff, IL; tel. (847) 604 8900
